Garlic Bread Lasagna Sub is a delightful fusion of two beloved dishes: garlic bread and lasagna. This recipe transforms a loaf of Italian or French bread into a hearty sub, loaded with rich layers of sausage, cheese, and sauce, making it a perfect meal for any occasion.

Ingredients

🍞 1 large Italian or French bread loaf
🧈 1/2 cup vegetable oil spread (or butter)
🧄 1 tablespoon garlic powder
🌿 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
🥩 1 pound ground Italian sausage
🍅 2 cups tomato sauce
🧀 1 cup ricotta cheese
🥚 1 large egg
🍝 6 lasagna riccia noodles, cooked according to package instructions
🧀 2 cups Italian five cheese blend
🧀 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

1- Prepare the Garlic Bread:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice the top off the bread loaf and hollow out a trench along the top, removing some of the bread from the center to create space for the filling.
  • Mix the vegetable oil spread (or butter) with garlic powder and parsley flakes.
  • Spread this mixture generously inside the trench and on the upper edges of the bread.

2- Toast the Garlic Bread:

  • Place the bread on a baking sheet and toast it in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove and set aside.

3- Prepare the Filling:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground Italian sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  • In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with the egg. Mix until smooth and well-combined.

4- Assemble the Lasagna Sub:

  • Spread a layer of tomato sauce inside the trench of the toasted bread.
  • Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  • Spread a layer of the ricotta-egg mixture over the noodles.
  • Add a layer of cooked sausage.
  • Sprinkle a layer of Italian five cheese blend.
  • Repeat these layers until you reach the top of the bread, finishing with a layer of sauce and a generous topping of the Italian five cheese blend and Parmesan cheese.

5- Bake the Lasagna Sub:

  • Place the assembled sub back in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

6- Garnish and Serve:

  • Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.
  • Optionally, garnish with additional parsley flakes for a fresh touch.
