Country fried beef liver steaks are a delicious and comforting dish, featuring tender liver steaks fried to perfection and served with a savory onion gravy. This recipe is perfect for a hearty meal, accompanied by fluffy rice and a vibrant corn/carrot mix.
Ingredients
🍖 1 pound beef liver, sliced into steaks
🥛 1 cup milk (for soaking)
🥣 1 cup all-purpose flour
🧂 1 teaspoon salt
🌶️ 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
🧄 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
🌶️ 1/2 teaspoon paprika
🧈 1/4 cup vegetable oil or butter for frying
🧅 1 large onion, thinly sliced
🥣 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
💧 2 cups water
🥄 1 tablespoon beef bouillon paste (or 2 cubes)
🧂 Salt and pepper to taste
🍚 2 cups cooked white rice
🥕 1 can (15 oz) corn and carrot mix, drained
Instructions
1- Prepare the Liver:
- Rinse the liver slices and place them in a bowl.
- Cover with milk and let soak for at least 30 minutes to help reduce any strong flavors. Drain and pat dry with paper towels.
2- Coating for the Liver:
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Dredge each liver steak in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.
3- Cook the Liver Steaks:
- Heat the vegetable oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, add the liver steaks. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and keep warm.
4- Make the Onion Gravy:
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Sauté until they become soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Gradually add the water, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add the beef bouillon paste and stir until it dissolves.
- Allow the gravy to simmer for about 5 minutes, until it thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5- Serve:
- Place the liver steaks on a serving platter and pour the onion gravy over them.
- Serve with cooked white rice and the drained corn and carrot mix on the side.
